Organizational Culture and Values Measurement, Development and Management

A global ocean carrier of automobiles and other roll on/roll off (ro-ro) cargo wanted to leverage its logistics expertise to increase the value it provided for its customers. This necessitated entering into strategic relationships with inland carriers and other vehicle processing operations. Significant aspects of the repositioning of their brand included customer partnering, knowledge creation and sharing and global stewardship. The strategic shift and brand repositioning occurred simultaneously with a merger with a former competitor who had a very different culture. The challenge was to effectively merge the existing cultures while moving the new culture toward the leadership outlook and competencies that supported the modified strategy and brand. We worked with the client to identify the leadership values/competencies that the new strategy and brand suggested. We then measured the existing leadership value/competency priorities to identify the gap that existed. With the gap identified we developed and designed specific development interventions that began with the senior leadership and that were cascaded throughout the organization.
