Resilience. A word that is taking on new meaning for business (and government) as we face the current economic challenges so well heralded in the global press today. How do we design and build resilience into our organizations so that we can not only survive an economic challenge of historic proportion but also thrive in it?

We believe that the answer lies in transforming our organization. There are several ways to do this:

  • We can increase the value we create for our stakeholders.
  • We can increase the stakeholders for whom we create that value.
  • We can increase both.

Finally once we are able to increase our value and our stakeholders we can speed up the process by which we do these things. This is what we refer to as increasing the velocity of the stakeholder value creation cycle. Resilient organizations are able to continuously renew the value that they create for growing numbers of stakeholders with increased efficiency.

Today many executives are focused on the revenue they are (or are not) generating. Although we must always be mindful of the bottom-line it is not where our focus must be if we are to build resilience into our companies. Even if your organization is currently struggling to survive you can transform it into a resilient company.
